Thanks for posting this. I looked around at several other fixes but most of them were along the lines of 'try to download drivers for other printers and maybe it will work.' You are the only one that I saw that mentioned this particular workaround which fixed our problem using TrueView 2018. Using your method I did not have to install any drivers. I simply used the existing printer drivers that were already on the network.You can't type commands in TrueView so the instructions were slightly different for us.

I am trying to find the driver for an HP Designjet 800 42 inch plotter. I am running Windows 10 64 bit and it seems I am having a rather difficult time locating this driver from a virus free zone. Since I wrote these steps for my own sake I'll post them here in case it helps anyone out. Note that you may have to make some changes to these steps depending on how your environment is set up.
In TrueView, click the icon in the top left of the program and choose Options. Click on the “Plot and Publish” tab. Click “Add or Configure Plotters”. Double click “Add-A-Plotter Wizard”. You will be prompted to do this from your computer, network server, or system printer. Choose “My Computer” and click Next.
Under Manufacturer choose Hewlett-Packard. Under Models choose 'DesignJet 750C C3195A' and click Next. If a popup appears recommending you download HP drivers, click Continue. On the Import PCP (import file) screen, click Next.
On the Ports screen, choose “Plot to a port” and choose your DesignJet 800 from the list then click Next. Name it something that will be obvious to you that it is the workaround for the plotter. I named it “DesignJet 800 Fix”. Optional: Click on “Edit Plotter Configuration” and change the settings as you see fit.

Click Finish. Optional: At this point you should still have the Options screen open to the “Plot and Publish” tab. Here you can change your default output device to the newly fixed plotter. Make sure you choose the newly created plotter when you go to plot. It should work as expected now.
